Not all matches in the World Cup round of 32 will be affected by the heat wave but there will be some notable games to keep an eye on.
The hottest weather this week will be in Texas, affecting mostly fans traveling to air-conditioned stadiums in Houston and Arlington.
Temperatures in Houston will be around 44C (111F) for Brazil vs Japan on Monday and up to 41C (106F) in Dallas on Tuesday.
It will obviously feel much more pleasant inside the stadium for the players and fans.
The same is likely to be the case for England vs DR Congo on Wednesday in Atlanta where it will feel hot and humid outside the air-conditioned stadium.

Friday’s games in Miami and Kansas City could be particularly uncomfortable as high humidity will push temperatures up to 40C (104F).

This weekend, heat will peak across the eastern United States and Canada.
This could be a particular problem as we head into the last 16 on Saturday and Sunday in Philadelphia and New Jersey where temperatures will be much higher than normal.
