Another UK heat wave could be on the way

Last week saw record high temperatures fall across the UK – but there are signs that another heatwave could be on the way as July begins.

Some forecasters suggest temperatures could climb back into the mid-30Cs in England and Wales next week. Although the Met Office described the weather as “warmer than average”, there is still uncertainty as to how hot the conditions will be.

Although the likelihood of a return to heatwave conditions is increasing for some areas, the likelihood of last week’s high temperatures or high humidity is currently low, said Deputy Chief Forecaster Tony Wison.

A new temporary UK temperature record for June of 37.7C (99.9F) was set in Lingwood, Norfolk, on Friday.

This beat the previous June record of 35.6C set in 1957 and equaled in 1976.

National temperature records were also broken in at least eight European countries last week, with red high heat warnings in effect across eastern Europe.
