SCOTUS overturns 90 years of legal precedent to expand US presidential powers, handing Donald Trump a major victory. The court ruled that President Donald Trump can fire the heads of independent agencies without cause. The justices overturned a nearly century-old precedent that allowed Congress to protect the heads of independent agencies from political influence. The court’s landmark decision hinged on allowing President Trump to remove Rebecca Sloan, a Democratic member of the Federal Trade Commission, on policy grounds. She sued the government, but today’s decision effectively ends the bipartisan and neutral nature of the regulatory agencies that oversee many aspects of American life. Trump called the decision a “huge victory” and “one of the most important presidential decisions.” Anthony and Sarah spoke with Kate Schon, a professor at the School of Pennsylvania Law School and co-host of the Closer Watch podcast, and asked if Trump is now the most powerful president in history. We’ll take a look at the cases that didn’t go Trump’s way and what he has to say about the Supreme Court and whether he’s prepared to stand up to the president.
