Things took a dangerous turn
Gerard Pique, the former defender of “Barcelona” and the main owner of the Andalusian club, entered into a sharp confrontation with the referee of the match (0-1) against “Albacete” in the second division of Spain, according to the referee’s official message.
The referee’s report reveals the details
Referee Alonso de Ena Wolff stated in his official report that Pique approached him in the tunnel of the dressing room during the break of the match, expressing strong objections to his refereeing activities.
The report explained: “Mr. Gerard Pique approached me at the Bernabeu expressing objections of a technical nature regarding my refereeing,” but the matter developed after the end of the match, which Albacete decided with Jonathan Gomez’s goal in the 86th minute.

Chase in the tunnel and threats
The referee added in his report. “After the match, Mr Pique turned towards me shouting threats and followed me very close to my face along the tunnel to the entrance of the referees’ dressing room, complaining and objecting to my play.”
He continued. “As soon as I entered the dressing room, he shouted. “Now put that in the report if you want,” which the referee actually did, recording all the details in his official report.
Pique attacks the referee via social media
Instead of apologizing, Pique escalated the situation via his account on the X platform (formerly Twitter), where he attacked the referee and took responsibility for his team’s loss.
“A month ago we asked the referees’ committee that Ena Wolf no longer competes in the matches against Andorra,” Pique wrote. “He is a referee who is not of the same quality and it is clear that he has a personal problem with our club.”

He added in a sarcastic tone. “There are no accidents, he surprisingly easily gave four red cards for “complaining”, it’s shameful. Yes, there should always be reports and fines.
Pique’s repetitive behavior
This behavior is nothing new for Pique, who, despite always displaying his finesse and sportsmanship, was known for such confrontations with referees and opponents throughout his playing career.
Since retiring from football, Pique has moved into the world of business and sports investment, where he owns major stakes in the Pacific club, but he still stirs up controversy when he gets the chance.
Possible penalties
The Spanish Football Federation’s Disciplinary Committee is expected to review the referee’s official report, and Pique could face sanctions ranging from a fine to a ban, depending on the seriousness of the actions outlined in the report.
Notably, Andorra have suffered in Spain’s second division this season, with this loss coming as a string of disappointing results, increasing the pressure on Pique as owner and in charge of the club’s future.
