Arsenal have handed their Spanish coach Mikel Arteta a whopping £240m budget to make five new signings in the current summer transfer window as part of a plan to strengthen the squad after last season.

British newspaper Daily Star reports that the Gunners board decided to strongly back Arteta despite leading the team to the Premier League title after failing to win the Champions League after losing the final to Paris Saint-Germain.

Leicester City’s promising 16-year-old winger Jeremy Monga tops the goalscoring charts for the London club as Arsenal are seen as the most popular candidates for the player’s services given his desire to move to the Emirates Stadium.

The club are also looking to sign Celta Vigo’s Spanish defender Oscar Mingeza, who is out of contract at the end of June, making him an attractive free transfer due to his ability to play in more than one defensive position.

The name of Greece’s Christos Tsoulis, Club Brugge’s Belgian winger, is prominent in the front line in a deal that could be worth as much as £35m, making it one of the biggest deals in the Belgian league.

Arsenal also continue to monitor Aston Villa and England star Morgan Rodgers in a deal that could be worth more than €80m, while Brazil’s Bruno Guimaraes, the Newcastle United midfielder, remains a top target for the London club after having an initial offer worth £55m rejected.

According to the paper, Arsenal are set to make a new and improved offer to convince Newcastle to part with the Brazil international, a move that reflects Artete’s desire to make sweeping changes to his squad and prepare a squad to challenge for all the titles next season.
