Assassins Final Review – shades of Blade Runner in a dystopian thriller covered in green silty mud | Video

CThrowing ten years after the year in which Blade Runner was set, the movie continues to be the gold of the dystopian future. This is obvious from the dark green and Asian symbols of the broken city where the amazing game of science begins; the last remnants of civilization after a mysterious disaster called the Event. With the Earth locked in a new age of darkness, outside the cities a terrible fog keeps everything covered in winter forever.

Luckily then the Kid protagonist (Athena Park) has the best looking snood this side of Topshop. He escapes when his father, who is the leader of an important tribe, is on the way, out of breath and being chased by masked bandits seeking to know his whereabouts. A shiny-bearded Nobel (Josh Bainbridge), katana at the ready, is on hand to lead him to a bad place – and hopefully into the hands of an aunt (Lora Burke) he never knew.

With this short-lived apocalypse and a bleak financial landscape, co-writer and executive director James Anthony Usas is struggling to convey more than the usual meeting of the two. There’s a pitstop in a jerry-built garage / futuristic greasy spoon, a rescue mission chez but Mad Max refuses too much, and cannibals. Even the passageway — the cybernetic technology developed by the Kid’s father, whose aunt helps him — resembles Blade Runner’s impact and familiarity without treading the same deep waters.

With a terrifying atmosphere, The Last Assassins is a lot of fun to talk about. Usas Department of Technology exhibits; he does a lot to raise the tone of cyberpunk with a little dress like putting a light on top of a small station, holographic displays on the dashboards of familiar cars, or red filtered, Terminator security readings. And the last vision of the Child, after being taken over by a floating baby, is of free-flowing madness. Looking good makes us go out of our way.
