‘I see tourists staring in front of my house’: the campervan crisis on the Isle of Skye

Things like public toilets and waste disposal points – especially the lack of them – are a big issue in Sky Rooms.

Home to over 10,000 people, it has few urban areas and is mostly an island of dramatic mountains, rugged beaches and valleys.

Photographer Danielle Stewart travels to the Highlands in her campervan in her spare time and for work.

Sky is one of her regular destinations.

“It’s freedom – you can wake up in beautiful places. That’s definitely the best thing about it,” she says of the benefits of owning a campervan.

She added: “I went to Spain and Portugal for three months last summer and that was great – but in Europe it’s a very different van life, because they have the facilities.”
