Making big gains
Tunisia’s football federation is set to appoint national coach Mouen Chaabani as head of coaching staff at the Eagles of Carthage in the coming hours after talks with France’s Herve Renard failed over Sabri Lamouchi’s 2026 World Cup bid and Renard’s attempt to return to school in Tunisia.
According to Al-Sharq Sports website, Tunisian youth team coach Anis Boujelban tops the list of candidates for assistant coach in the new technical staff, especially after he turned down a move to Egypt’s Al-Ahly and chose to stay in Tunisian football.
Chaabani is currently in charge of Morocco’s RS Berkane, who sit third in the league with two rounds to go, after being knocked out of the title race by a 2-1 defeat at FUS Rabat yesterday, Sunday.
Chaabani has a remarkable African record as he won the African Champions League twice in a row with Esperance of Tunisia (2018 and 2019) before leading RS Berkane to the Moroccan league and the African Confederation Cup in the 2024-2025 season, making him the ideal choice to lead the Tunisian national team back into the fold.
