The man charged in the slaying of a 2-year-old Chersey girl had parole, police said.

The child was identified as Kerjen, and police said they believe the incident took place in a “family environment.”

A police spokesman said: “At this stage we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.”

Several bouquets of flowers were left at the entrance to Seward Place on the corner of Peacroft Road and Bell Bridge Road on Thursday.

Det Ch Supt Jon Groenen described it as a “tragic incident”, adding that teams are “working hard to build a picture of what happened”, adding that a significant police presence will remain in Pyrcroft Road in the coming days.

“We appreciate that this is all about residents and we would like to thank them for their cooperation as we conduct our investigation,” Gronen said.
