Many die-hard fans of They say 1993 was the last of the old school Glastonbury festivals. It was before phone screens, biometric tickets and wall-to-wall coverage changed the music scene forever.
To mark this special year in the festival’s history, a digitally restored film showing scenes from 1993 is being screened in cinemas across the UK.
Robin Mahoney, the original director of the Glastonbury film, filmed the footage over four days with a team of 30 young filmmakers at the event, which has now been restored using state-of-the-art technology.
“The music, the magic, the midsummer madness. No voices, no talking heads. No presenters telling you how to feel. Just like Glastonbury was,” Mahoney said.
“The festival was on the verge of becoming the first free-form, free-for-all, crazy, chaotic environment of a world-class music festival.”
