Egypt captain Mohamed Salah is a doubt for Friday’s World Cup last-32 tie against Australia with a hamstring injury.
The 34-year-old was substituted this time Egypt drew 1-1 with Iran And team doctor Mohamed Abu said Salah had complained of pain before the scan, which later confirmed a hamstring strain.
The statement from the Egyptian Football Association added that Salah had begun a treatment program but did not offer any advice on whether the forward would be fit to play against Australia in Dallas on July 3 (19:00 BST).
“I spoke to Salah and the injury doesn’t seem serious,” Egypt coach Hossam Hassan said after the Iran match.
“He assured me it would be fine, it wasn’t a serious injury.”
A hamstring problem has kept former Liverpool star Salah out for three weeks since the end of April but he could feature in the Reds’ final two games of the season.
Salah has scored once and provided two assists so far this World Cup as Egypt finished second in Group G.
