In addition to indoor models that come with light rings, there are also outdoor versions without light allowing you to add rings later if you change your mind. You can choose from a Small (18 plants), Medium (24 plants), or Large (36 plants) Farm, although each plan is static – you can add levels later if you choose and additional equipmentalthough Lettuce Grow recommends no more than six. Each farm comes with money to buy seedlings when you are ready. When I first looked at Farmstand, pest infestations (aphids, whiteflies) were an important issue with seedlings, which were sent from nurseries. However, the company has established a system of self-isolation, the directions of which are on the package of seedlings. I followed that up with my Counterstand seedlings, and haven’t had a bug problem since.

Note that the pump at the Farmstand runs every hour and sounds like a toilet flush for five minutes straight, so make sure your gift is okay with this, and they may need to add a toy ($60 from Lettuce Growthor you can find a cheap one on Amazon) to make sure it’s easy to move.
