Thomas Tuchel ‘worried’ about England right-back situation after injury to Jarrel Kwansah

When Livramento withdrew from the World Cup squad, Tuchel opted for call-up centre-back Trevo Chalobah instead of including a replacement right-back. Like Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Tuchel said immediately after the game that it was too early to assess the severity of Quansah’s injury but the Bayer Leverkusen defender’s availability was uncertain with the last-32 match just four days away.

“A classic ankle twist and he’s in pain,” Tuchel said of Quansah’s injury. “He said he’s had it before and it’s been a matter of days. His feet are up and in the snow.

“Naturally (I’m worried about the right-back situation) – we have another injury in the position.

“It’s going to be a tight race for Reece James and a tight race for Jarrell Kwansah but it’s our job to find a solution and we will.”
