T20 World Cup: England never looked confident ahead of semi-final – Charlotte Edwards

England were always expected to go out of Group Two, but their performance was still impressive.

Danny White-Hodge’s 89 against the White Ferns in 200-plus wins against Sri Lanka and Scotland, 186-7 in a tough game against their hosts West Indies, and chasing 164 in 2.4 overs.

“The goal was to beat the team,” Edwards said.

“It’s really nice to go through unbeaten. Our batting is particularly strong and a real positive for us.

“I thought I bowled really well tonight. You saw how good that match was.

“We seem to be getting better with each game going into the business end of the tournament, which is great.”

England won’t meet their semi-final opponents until Group One ends on Sunday, but India or South Africa are currently the most likely.

They also don’t know if they will be playing on Tuesday at 14:30 BST or Thursday at 18:30 BST.

Tuesday’s match is arranged to accommodate Indian TV and India will play in that match if they qualify.

If anyone other than India finishes second in Group One, England will play on Thursday, but if India finishes second, they will switch to Tuesday.

“Obviously we know the teams we can play in the semi-finals now, one is the ODI World Champion (India) and one has been in the World Cup final for the last three years (South Africa) so it won’t be easy,” Edwards said.

But we are going into the semi-finals with a lot of confidence and a lot of belief.
