England’s winning streak in the T20 World Cup continues in New Zealand’s final group game at The Oval.
Already top of Group 2 and guaranteed a place in next week’s semi-finals, England built on their previous four wins by chasing down 164 balls.
Danny White-Hodge, now the tournament leader, maintained her impressive form with an 89. She was supported by Sophia Dunkley, who made 49 not out in a partnership of 128.
New Zealand, the champions, are a shadow of the team that will win this championship in 2024. But the dominant nature of England’s victory has added to the momentum in this side.
After restricting New Zealand early, they took three wickets in four balls to restrict the White Ferns to 163-6 without scoring a run.
Sophie Devine hit three sixes in her last international in a 14-ball 30 but otherwise England were in control throughout.
Their semi-final opponents will be confirmed on Sunday, with India or South Africa most likely.
That match will return to The Oval on Tuesday afternoon or Thursday evening.England’s women’s team are unbeaten in their 11 matches.
If they win that and have a chance to become their first World Cup champions since 2017, they will return to their home country for the final time on Sunday.
