Real Madrid are set to make another change to their first-team squad after ESPN revealed that Manuel Arroyo has resigned as first-team doctor a year after joining Merenger.
According to the newspaper “SportsArroyo’s resignation comes after a season in which the club’s medical services have come under widespread criticism, particularly following a spate of injuries, most notably the misdiagnosis of Kylian Mbappe’s knee injury, which has thrown the club’s doctors back into the limelight.
Until now, Real Madrid has not officially announced the doctor’s departure, nor has he revealed the identity of the person who will replace him in that position.
Arroyo joined Valdebebas Sports City in the summer of 2025 from Granada and was appointed to work alongside Felipe Segura, who also previously worked at Granada, before moving to Real Madrid in 2021.
Internally, a number of Real Madrid players have voiced their displeasure with the medical team’s performance, particularly the way it has handled the injury files of the likes of Rodrigo and Kylian Mbappe.
Arroyo’s resignation leaves Real looking for a replacement in a department considered one of the club’s most sensitive, especially after the team’s recurring physical problems in recent seasons.
The reasons behind Arroyo’s resignation have not yet been revealed, nor has the club issued a statement clarifying the next steps to fill the vacancy.
