The body of a teenage swimmer has been found in Testwood Lakes


Police found the body of a 15-year-old boy who went missing while swimming in a lake.

Testwood Lakes Nature Reserve, near Totton, Hampshire, has been released as police marine units The search began on Wednesday afternoon.

The child’s family was notified and formal identification was conducted. A file is being prepared for the investigation.

The incident happened on the UK’s hottest June day on record in Gosport, Hampshire, when the temperature temporarily broke at 36.1°C.

Police, including marine teams, have been conducting extensive searches on 150 acres of land.

The National Police Air Service, South Central Ambulance Service and Hampshire and Isles Fire Service were sent to the scene.

In a statement, Testwood Lakes said it was “deeply concerned” to hear of the “serious incident”.

The site, which is owned by Southwater and managed by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, remains closed while people are asked to avoid the area.
