Iran’s players left a written message in the dressing room after their final World Cup group stage match against Egypt, stressing that fair play represents the “spirit of the game”.
Iran drew 1-1 with Egypt in SeattleThey finished third in Group Seven, behind the Pharaohs and leaders Belgium.
According to the “sportbible” network, the text of the message left behind was as follows“We come from Iran. From a country that has put honor above victory for thousands of years. For us, football is not just a competition of results, it is a test of character.”
The Iranian national team added. “Points may be scored in many ways, but respect cannot be won. Perhaps a team can make it out of the group, but only through honesty and honor can one stand in front of history. Fair play is not just a line of football laws, it is the spirit of the game.”
He concluded. “Thank you, Seattle, for your hospitality. And thank you to all Iranians who gave their hearts, their voices and their whole being to Iran. Iran is always on its feet.”
Iran previously repeated the same after the Belgium game, as the delegation left another message in the dressing rooms of the Los Angeles stadium.
It was said in the previous message. “From ancient Persia thousands of years ago to civilized Iran today, the spirit of Iran remains alive and resilient. We came to Los Angeles with pride, competed with honor and left with dignity. Thank you, Los Angeles, for your hospitality.”
The message to the fans went on to say. “Thank you to every Iranian who gave his heart, voice and soul for Iran during these 180 minutes. May peace, respect and friendship prevail among all nations.”
