The Greens exited the World Cup in the Round of 32
Cape Verde coach Bobista wanted to congratulate Saudi Arabia despite an early exit from the 2026 World Cup.
The Saudi Arabian team was eliminated from the World Cup in the group stageAfter a goalless draw with Cape Verde at dawn on Saturday in the third and final round at NRG Stadium in the American city of Houston.
“We knew the Saudi team was dangerous in transition, so we had a tactical plan to combat that,” Bobista said.
“We tried not to allow the Saudi Arabian national team to dominate the ball and we managed to overcome the difficulties with determination and quality play. It is necessary to congratulate the Saudi Arabian national team for the game shown in the confrontation.”
“We are happy that we worked with a positive attitude and this reflects the character of the players and we showed that we are not afraid of the competition.”
He concluded. “We are a small country, our goal was to do everything without fear, in three confrontations we had mental strength, we showed high abilities and proved that we can qualify.”
Cape Verde qualified for the round of 32 of the World Cup as runners-up in Group H with 3 points after drawing with Spain, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia in their historic first appearance at the World Cup.
