Former world champion Lizzie Deegan has returned to the role of sporting director at Great Britain’s cycling team which will “play a key role in supporting the road squad at major events leading up to the LA 2028 Olympic Games”.

Degnan’s illustrious career includes winning a silver medal for Britain in the women’s road race at the 2012 London Olympics and She became the women’s road race world champion In 2015.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to work with a strong and talented group of riders,” said Dignan, who is one of Britain’s most successful road cyclists with 43 professional wins.
“I believe we are one of the strongest road nations in the world. It’s been over 10 years since I won the world title so it’s time to step up to our potential and put on more rainbow jerseys.
“It’s always a proud moment to represent your country – my aim is to help every rider who does so with the best possible support to achieve their highest performance.”
GB Cycling says Deeganan will work with men’s and women’s road cycling lead Matt Brammier.
“Bringing Lizzie to the team was a real coup,” said Brammier. “Having recently retired from the bunch, he has so much insight and knowledge of both GB’s riders and the opposition.
“He also understands first-hand how we work as a team and can provide support and advice on how to get the best out of our riders on race day.
“Furthermore, Lizzy is a true legend of the sport and has directly inspired some of our future stars to follow in her footsteps, so it will be a real pleasure for them to work with her.”
