"We are about to start a new tournament".. Mbappe declares war after going past Pele

Mbappe charts the path to immortality with 20 contributions

Kylian Mbappe expressed his delight at France’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup play-offs, stressing that “the real stage of the competition starts now” after a 4-1 win over Norway sent the Roosters nine points clear at the top of Group 9.

Mbappe didn’t score in the match, but he played a strong part, providing two assists for Ousmane Dembele, who went above and beyond to score a first-half hat-trick.

With this performance, the Real Madrid star took his World Cup goals tally to 20 (16 goals and 4 assists), overtaking Brazilian legend Pele who has 19 contributions (12 goals, 7 assists), while still trailing Argentina’s Lionel Messi with 27 goals and 18 assists.

Mbappe wrote in his account on the “X” platform. “Mission accomplished and now it’s time to rebuild and start a new tournament,” indicating his focus on the next round, where he looks to lead France to a third title in their history.
