The Portuguese coach left the Tigers at the end of last season
A new coach has entered the list of contenders to lead the Al-Ittihad club next season, replacing the former Portuguese coach Sergio Conceicao.
Al-Ittihad Club announced the sacking of Conceicao as the team’s technical director at the end of last season due to poor results and failure to win any titles despite the league and cup titles last season.
Saudi Arabian journalist Majid Hood wrote on his personal account on the “X” website that a new coach has entered the list of contenders to head the federation, and he is Hernán Crespo from Argentina.
Crespo has extensive experience in the Arab world, having previously coached Qatar’s Al-Duhail and Emirates’ Al-Ain, in addition to Brazil’s Sao Paulo, his last coaching stop until last March.
The Argentine coach’s most notable achievement was a league, cup and League Cup treble with Qatari side Al Duhail in the 2022-2023 season, before leading Al Ain to win the 2023-24 AFC Champions League.
Crespo joins a list of four candidates the federation is currently negotiatingThey are led by Romanian Razvan Lucescu, who previously coached Al Hilal from 2019-2021 and won the Champions League title with them.
Dekan are also looking at signing Mexico coach Javier Aguirre and Serbia coach Veljko Paunovic, in addition to Germany’s Jens Wissing, who won his second AFC Champions League title with Gamba Osaka at the expense of Al-Nasr.
This comes after 3 coaches have apologized for taking over the job so far and they are the former coach of the team; Portuguese Nunu Santo, Spanish Ernesto Valverde, the former coach of “Barcelona” and German Dino Topmüller, who recently took over as the coach of “Lens”.
Al-Ittihad will be looking to mend their ways next season after finishing fifth in the Roshen League last season, losing to the Guardian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup in the semi-finals and the AFC Champions League Elite in the quarter-finals.
