Green enters the showdown with a bang
The coach of the Saudi Arabian national team, the Greek Georgios Donis, announced the official team that will play against Cape Verde in the third and last round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.
The squad saw several changes compared to the last clash against Spain, a move that reflects the coaching staff’s desire to right the wrongs and win the crucial game, which many saw as a response to fans’ demands for tweaks to formation and style of play.
The Greek coach decided to rely on Sultan Mandesh on the right wing instead of Muhammad Abu Al-Shamat, and Nawaf Bushel appeared on the left defender instead of Miteb Al-Harbi.
The composition of “Greens” was as follows.
Gatekeeping. Muhammad Al Owais.
Line of defense. Saud Abdel Hamid, Hassan Timbukti, Abdel-Ilah Al-Omari, Nawaf Bushel.
Midfield. Nasser Al-Dosari, Abdullah Al-Khaibari, Muhammad Kanno.
Attack line. Sultan Mandash, Salem Al-Dosari, Firas Al-Braykan.
Saudi Arabia go into the match with the motto “There is no substitute for victory” to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the round of 32, in what Al-Akhdar sees as the most important of his World Cup journey.
