Tiau. Beat Iraq 5-0? Our destiny is not in our hands

Tough situation for the Teranga Lions

Senegal coach Pape Tiau has expressed his satisfaction with the performance of his players in their big 5-0 victory over Iraq in the third and final group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stressing that his team did what was required even though its destiny was no longer in its hands.

In his post-match remarks, Thiau explained that the Senegalese team “played a balanced game and managed to impose their rhythm after a difficult start against a rival struggling for survival”, noting that the wide result was the result of discipline and composure towards the flow of the game.

Despite the win, Senegal ended their campaign in third place in Group Nine with 3 points, entering the waiting phase awaiting the results of the other groups that will determine whether they will win one of the qualification cards for the top third-placed teams.
