The Roosters’ scoring machine is back at the 2026 World Cup and Ousmane Dembele is back with it to score again at a crucial moment against Norway in the third and final round of the 2026 World Cup group stage.
The Paris Saint-Germain winger not only broke a four-year fast but also became the fastest player to score a brace in France’s World Cup history, while Kylian Mbappe rekindled a seven-year memory with a rare decisive pass.
He also scored a hat-trick in the 30th minute, making Dembele the third French player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup match, after Just Fontaine against Paraguay on 8 June 1958 and against Germany on 28 June 1958 (4 goals) and Kylian Mbappe against Argentina on 222 December.
French football statistics network Statesfoot reports that Ousmane Dembele has scored the first goal for France for only the second time in his international career, following the opening goal against Kazakhstan on 28 March 2021.
It is noteworthy that Dembele failed to score in two consecutive matches for the “Roosters” between March and June 2021, when he scored two goals, only now he returned and broke the tie after a long absence.
Dembele’s biggest achievement was breaking an all-time record as he became the fastest player in French history to score twice in the World Cup just 20 minutes after kick-off.
The number reflects the flying winger’s determination and puts him at the top of the Roosters’ all-time scoring record.
Ironically, the assist came at the foot of Kylian Mbappe, who set up Dembele for only the second time in their history for the French national team.
The first time was a long way off, namely against England on 13 June 2017. The brace again came at the perfect time for the Parisians, giving Deschamps extra attacking options in the knockout stages.
The collective achievement didn’t stop with Dembele and Mbappe as France scored at least two goals in seven consecutive World Cup matches for only the second time in their history.
The first time dates back to the golden era from June 1945 to June 1958. The generation of 2026 now equals the number of legends and confirms that the Roosters’ attacking prowess has become a formidable weapon to threaten any challenger on their way to the title.
