Almost a month has passed since New Glenn the rocket exploded at its launch site in Florida, creating a huge fire. It must have been a massive rocket explosion that exploded over a famous Florida landmark, and we’re still dealing with its aftermath today.
The rocket blast took out its only mode, the LC-36A. So even if Blue Origin can quickly figure out what’s wrong, it doesn’t have a New Glenn rocket launch. Company officials, including founder Jeff Bezos, say the vehicle will return to the LC-36A by the end of this year, although there is considerable uncertainty about that timing.
At this point, we have more questions than answers about the rocket that has become so important to the needs of NASA and commercial customers. What does this failure mean for the Artemis program to land people on the Moon? What do we know about the time of Artemis III and the lunar mission, Artemis IV? What about the base of the Moon?
