UK Weather: A red heat warning remains in place but cooler weather is on the way.

On Friday, the worst of the heat and humidity will move eastward and cool slightly to the west.

Temperatures could peak at 37 or 38C for some in the red warning area.

A widespread amber warning is in place across the Midlands and East Anglia, where temperatures could still reach the low 30s.

Following overnight thunderstorms for some parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England, further thundery showers are possible on Friday morning and showers for some in the afternoon.

When there is a lot of heat energy in the atmosphere, some thunderstorms can produce severe thunderstorms, frequent lightning and hail.

It will be less warm on Friday night but temperatures in southeast England and East Anglia may still not drop below 20C.
