A Scottish FA investigation, led by sports events consultant Mark Blackbourne, is yet to report to the governing body into the cup tie.
The Ibrox club insisted they were “clear in their condemnation of the actions of certain individuals on March 8” and were “attempting to work with Celtic to reduce security concerns for the upcoming match”.
Rangers added that, for the upcoming match which will help decide who wins the three-way title race involving leaders Hearts and two Old Firm sides, “removing supporters from one of the competition’s defining fixtures would introduce a clear and material sporting imbalance”.
Celtic Rangers demanded the exclusion of a section of the support they said were “identifiably involved in serious violence and disorder”. The club expressed “surprise and disappointment” that Rangers had not agreed to the request and were happy to hold talks with their rivals and the league body.
The defending champions added that they “will always prioritize the safety of attendees at Celtic Park and following a detailed risk assessment regarding upcoming matches, the club has made a reasonable request to Rangers FC that tickets not be distributed to a section of supporters who have been involved in very recent and identified serious violence”.
