Virgil van Dijk, the star of the Dutch national team, expressed his joy after finishing the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the top of Group F.
The Windmills went top of the table with a 3-1 win over Tunisia to take their tally to seven points and set up a thrilling showdown with Morocco in the round of 32.
Van Dijk said in published statements ESPN NL “Overall happy with the result, we did what we had to do,” he said on his YouTube channel.
He added: “We started well but during the first half the performance became a bit haphazard and disorganized. It wasn’t necessary, but there was no real danger.”
He noted: “Of course it’s annoying when we concede a goal from a free-kick, so it’s something we definitely have to look at and refocus on.”
He continued. “Morocco was our preferred choice, my preferred choice was to top the group first and qualify for the round of 32, and that’s what happened.”
Van Dijk emphasized. “We now know that a difficult and strong opponent is waiting for us in Monterrey. I’ve never been there before and I’ve never visited Mexico, so I hope there will be a lot of Dutch fans.”
