Construction has good and bad news

But if you’re waiting to order the Framework Laptop 13 Pro — which Framework’s CEO called the “MacBook Pro for Linux users” — the company shared some good news Thursday that could mean yours will cost less than you expected. The the company announced that it has found the new low-cost PCIe Gen 5 SSDs from its supplier, Adata, and if you had installed a plan with a 500GB SSD, you will now get a 1TB SSD at a lower price. Framework says you can also order upgrades with new 1TB or 2TB SSDs, although I can’t see them DIY configurator on.

But the Framework also has bad news. The company says it has “found signs that CPU prices are rising recently,” and expects to have to “change the overall system price for the Framework Laptop 13 Pro in the coming weeks to accommodate new orders.” It’s not a big sign of trouble in the sector, which has already led to price hikes in tech prices, including some that were also announced on Thursday for Apple devices and Xbox games.

Framework first announced the Laptop 13 Pro in April and originally planned to ship the first installments in June. The company recently delayed that first shipment until July due to problems with the laptop’s haptic touchpad and its interface.
