The Pentagon covers the AI teams of OpenAI, Google, and Nvidia — but not Anthropic

The Pentagon has partnered with OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Nvidia, Elon Musk’s xAI, and the Reflection startup, allowing the agency to use their AI tools for social change, according to announcement on Friday. At the same time, the Department of Defense has abandoned Anthropic – which it previously used for intelligence – after declaring it vulnerable.

Emil Michael, Chief Technology Officer of the Defense Department, he told CNBC on Friday that Anthropic is still a threat to give, but it is called his own defense a strong model, Mythos“a different time for national security,” adding that “we have to make sure our networks are hardened, because the brand has the ability to find cyber threats and record them.”

In its announcement, the Pentagon says the contracts with seven AI companies will allow for the “legal use” of their systems, “establishing the United States military as the first AI military.”
