The new effort will get the species listed as an Endangered Species

The new declaration, however, has a clear protective purpose. Colossal has already announced what it is calling BioVaulta place where tissue and reproductive cells from endangered species can be stored, which requires a lot of energy and a constant supply of liquid nitrogen. The new program will see it add specimens from all of the endangered species in the US to the museum. Those examples will also be used to create a list of each of these types. The declaration calls these “living things that contribute to reproduction, the improvement of human genetics, and, when species are lost, the possibility of future regeneration.”

The US Fish and Wildlife Service will provide the expertise to collect and test samples to fill the database. They (and anyone else who gets the samples) will still have the ability to know how the next living thing is used.

“All the tools developed through this collaboration will be stored in open public repositories, and will be made available for free, providing the scientific community around the world with the genomes, population density, and bioinformatic tools needed to support recovery beyond what any organization or organization can achieve on its own,” the company’s announcement said. It explained to Ars that there may be limits to this. This is because of some examples from countries under tribal control, and in part because some population policies may put species at risk of poaching.
