Jackass: The Best and Final Review – a final, hilarious farewell to the kings of gross-out comedy | Comedy movies

The boy-men of JackassMTV’s three-year-old series of frequently updated and beloved comedy series, has shown a willingness to engage in all kinds of introspection in the name of hilarious laughs. (Perhaps the most famous, Ryan Dunn, who died in 2011, drove a toy car into himself before entering the X-ray.) So it hurts to see the old people take this to the next natural step in Jackass: Best and Last, where the raspy-voiced character. Steve-O they do prostate exams – done by a clever robot, of course. Later, the criminals take the drug used to empty the stomach before the colonoscopy, and then try to play Twister with the nasty, deadly bomb that’s coming. Cameraman Lance Bangs, as always, tries to prevent his return.

It would be easy to describe this fifth and final Jackass movie as a coming-of-age movie, even more so than its predecessors. Even his last thoughts have been expressed before: back in the 2010’s Jackass 3-DWeezer’s Nostalgic Memories blasted into the final boy chart of the year, and 2022. Jackass Forever he had a similar valedictory tone. In Best and Last, one goes so far as to make fun of the leader Johnny Knoxville about whether the audience can believe that this is the last film, since he has said this before.

Knoxville obviously doesn’t want to be shy. He is passionately devoted; several times in the film, his voice breaks when he talks about finishing the series. But what might be the most satisfying thing about this movie’s finale is that Jackass: Best and Last isn’t full of new features and bullshit, not really. Although no one is saying exactly, it seems like the crew, trembling as they are, understand that filming for 90 minutes (which may include a lot of shooting) can be life-threatening at their age. So this project is closer to a true composite film than what was written in the past, somewhere between Looney Tunes movies where the new episodes are covered with short voiceovers, and a great soundtrack that comes with a second album of new and rare songs.

Don’t get it wrong: there are a lot of new shows that the old team is doing. They don’t change to get into the little places, since among the new recruits from the previous film, it’s the only guy called “Poopies” who does a lot on camera, like getting stupid lip injections as a joke. (Rachel Wolfson and Jasper Dolphin, both beautiful in Jackass Forever, seem to be here mainly as moral support; they don’t do any real stunts, at least nothing that made the finale.) For that reason, some of the scenes that weren’t recent are new to many audiences. The video reaches into the show’s early days for parts MTV wouldn’t allow them to air, including a funny scene where Knoxville dons a prison garb and handcuffs, then visits a hardware store to buy a hacksaw. The film also begins with sweat-inducing scenes of pre-.MTV Knoxville, a version of Jackass abbreviated: Basics that include a bulletproof vest; it’s hard to even know that apparently his head has been around for at least four years.

Die-hard fans of the series and movies may be disappointed by a movie that’s only about a third of what it’s been seen before; there is also the danger of overshadowing the new tools by putting aside the old ones. One new mode, designed like an escape room from hell, feels like it comes out prematurely before it fulfills its destiny as a slapstick adaptation on Saw. But seeing a Jackass movie with a crowd is still a kick, and Knoxville still has it. And by “it”, I mean the willingness to get in the ring with an angry bull, and then back off when he doesn’t get the shot he wants.

The fifth Jackass, even the one that is the main part-final, is very important because of other things like Sixth Horror Moviewhich caused a lot of controversy because of his willingness to go too far (meaning, in particular, making dumb gay or trans jokes). The Jackass crew takes risks in their performances, yet even at their worst, the films are filled with joy and welcome, rather than content to push the envelope. Before leaving, Team Jackass makes it clear that they are the true kings of horror comedy.
