Argentina captain Lionel Messi has refused to rule out the possibility of participating in the 2030 World Cup, even though he is 39 years old, which means he will be 43 at the next edition of the tournament.
Many believed that beating Messi at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar would be his last stop on the world stage, especially since he lifted the trophy when he was thirty-five years old, but the Argentine captain continued to defy expectations and excelled at the 2026 World Cup.

A giant statue in Patagonia
In Argentina, Messi received a unique honor with the unveiling of a giant statue, about 26 meters high, in Cotral Co, Patagonia.
Work on the statue took 18 months and was carried out by Argentine sculptor Aldo Perueza, who explained that the project was a tribute to a man he considered “Argentina’s ambassador” to the world.
The statue represents the famous moment when Messi knelt on the floor of the Stadium of Light during the 2022 World Cup final after the decisive penalty that gave Argentina the title at France’s expense. He is also seen holding his country’s national team shirt and pointing to the sky in a customary gesture to honor his late grandmother.
The honor coincided with Messi’s 39th birthday celebrations, as his Argentina teammates surprised him with special gifts at the team’s camp, in a festive atmosphere that was widely shared on social media.
