Rangers: What we learned from McInnes’ unveiling

Rangers have made McInnes a ‘manager’, as opposed to the previous ‘head coach’ position, suggesting he will have a more hands-on approach to matters off the training pitch than his predecessors.

Asked about his role in recruitment, the Rangers boss said he was part of a collaborative process with technical director Dan Purdy, sporting director Stig Inge Bornebe, the board and recruitment staff.

He and his assistants will identify key positions that need to be strengthened, the recruiting staff can work on, and there will be ongoing negotiations.

But ultimately, the final call will rest with him.

“I have been assured that every player we sign will come to me to make the final decision,” McInnes explained.

“But it’s really a collaboration and it’s like like-minded people conversing on a daily basis to try to arrive at the best option for us.”

McInnes added that there is a model to adhere to but not every player will be for “development” to be resold.
