Northern Ireland’s upcoming Nations League campaign and Euro 2028 qualifiers will be broadcast live on the BBC.
The free-to-air deal between the broadcaster and Uefa will see the current deal extended until June 2028 and also include Scotland and Wales internationals as the BBC maintains its commitment to making international football accessible to all.
In the build-up to the 2028 UEFA European Championship, hosted by the UK and the Republic of Ireland, around 60 live games between the three countries will be available, while the tournament itself will be broadcast live on the BBC.
The extension builds on a hugely successful partnership that has made the BBC the home of international football for Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The initial deal was made in March 2025, with live action available on BBC Television, BBC iPlayer and BBC Sound.
Audiences reflected the appetite for live international football, with a UK-wide average of 1.11m for Northern Ireland’s World Cup qualifier against Germany, with 121,000 watching in Northern Ireland alone.
Wales’ exit and Scotland’s dramatic qualification win over Denmark also saw more than 1m viewers, while Steve Clarke’s side’s recent World Cup opener against Haiti attracted a peak audience of 2.8m on BBC One and iPlayer, despite the 02:00 BST kick-off.
“The extension of this deal is fantastic news for football fans across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, with every match available live and free-to-air on the BBC,” said Ruaned Richards, interim director of BBC Nations.
“These fixtures bring communities together and provide some of the greatest shared moments in our sporting calendar. We are proud to continue to tell these stories and showcase our country’s teams.”
Director of BBC Sport Alex K-Jelski added: “International football creates moments that bring communities together, inspire national pride and build huge audiences on every platform.
“We are delighted to extend our partnership with UEFA and bring every Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland men’s international match free-to-air to fans.
“Whether watching on television, streaming on iPlayer or following along via the BBC Sport website, app or our social channels, listeners can be sure the BBC will be there for every important moment leading up to UEFA Euro 2028.”
BBC coverage continues throughout the tournament, including Scotland’s match against Brazil at 23:00 BST this evening on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
