Wales boss Craig Bellamy is in talks with Burnley to become their new head coach ahead of the upcoming season.
The Clarets have made an approach to the Football Association of Wales to appoint Bellamy as Scott Parker’s replacement, with the 46-year-old now understood to be in contract talks with the Championship side.
Although no final agreement could be reached, talks have made significant progress in the past 48 hours.
BBC Sport revealed that Bellamy was the frontrunner to replace Parker after he was sacked on 30 April.
Initial indications are that Bellamy has opted to stay with Wales to take charge of the country’s European Championships in 2028.
But Bellamy is now in talks with Burnley with a strong focus on leaving the FAW.
The former Manchester City, Liverpool and West Ham winger has been appointed Wales boss in 2024.
Wales failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after suffering a penalty shoot-out defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina in Cardiff.
Bellamy’s contract was due to run until 2028, including the current European Championships in England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland.
Any move to Burnley would mean a second spell back at Turf Moor for Bellamy, who previously worked at the club as assistant manager under Vincent Kompany before moving to Bayern Munich.
Bellamy was briefly appointed as interim head coach following the Belgian’s move to the Bundesliga club, but was soon sacked.
