Wimbledon 2026: Amanda Anisimova on Iga Swiatek final, US Open run and future

Anisimova He said clearly Because she had a break from tennis before the Wimbledon run and in 2023.

With just two wins in the first four months of that year, the American left Madrid at the end of April and did not return to the WTA Tour until the following January.

Her mental health was suffering and it was time for her to “breathe and live a normal life for a while”.

Having fun and taking time off is still important to her.

“I’m someone who struggles to do the same thing every day,” she says.

On a non-tennis self-care day, I like to do something different.

“If I need an easy day for mental recovery, I’ll take it because it’s as important to me as my physical health.”

Anisimova is a year away from her business and psychology degree, which she studied in person in Florida for a semester during her vacation.

She threw herself into painting and sold some of her work for charity.

“I really want to go back to it,” she continued.

“It’s a great mindset. That’s why I started it – to get away from everything for three hours, I can’t get my hands dirty, look at my phone or pay attention to anything else.”

As the world No. 6 and two-time Grand Slam finalist, Anisimova may have more major titles in her future — but not medical school, which was her ambition when she first turned professional.

“If tennis didn’t work out, what I wanted to do when I grew up was to be a doctor, especially a surgeon,” Anisimova said.

“Unfortunately, it’s not very realistic for me anymore. Maybe it’s because I love my profession, fortunately.

“I’ve always been fascinated by science and the medical field, but now I feel so stressed out about tennis – I don’t think I’ll ever get through medical school.”

While last year’s final may not be her favorite memory, Anisimova is hoping to use that experience for another successful run at Wimbledon.

“Wimbledon is Wimbledon. I always like to come back,” she added.

“I have good memories from it, I hope to rewrite history in a positive way and go all the way at some point in my career.”
