Real Madrid sign Felicia Schröder in ‘most expensive’ female transfer

Teenage forward Felicia Schroeder has joined Real Madrid in a deal that makes her “the most expensive transfer ever in women’s football”, her former club said.

The Sweden international, 19, has signed a four-year deal with Real after scoring 91 goals in 128 games for Swedish club BK Hacken.

Last summer Orlando Pride made the most expensive signing in Mexico winger Lizbeth Ovalle Women’s Football History, With the 26-year-old Tigress moving from UANL in a deal worth $1.5m (£1.1m).

Schröder’s agent and Gothenburg-based Hacken declined to say the exact price of his move to Spain.

But a spokesman for Hacken told Reuters: “This price tag is based on exceeding the previous record amount of $1.5 million, a record amount that was secured by the Orlando Pride at the time. However, we are not disclosing exactly what this price tag is.”

Real finished second in Spain’s Liga F last season, 15 points behind champions Barcelona.

The Spanish side said they were signing a player who was the “standout star of the tournament” at the recent Women’s Europa Cup.
