When is it too hot to walk your dog, and how to keep pets cool

Keeping dogs and other furry animals well-groomed, like cats, prevents the development of dull fur, which can keep them from getting cold.

Make sure that any indoor animal cages or fish tanks are not in direct sunlight.

Do not leave your pet in a locked car, caravan or other vehicle at any time, as the temperature can quickly rise to dangerous levels – potentially fatal.

Similarly, do not leave animals confined in conservatories, sheds or greenhouses.

You may also want to leave extra water in your garden for birds, foxes and other wildlife.
