The “Pharaohs” won their first World Cup match against New Zealand
The former star of the Algerian national team Jamel Bellamy has confirmed that the Egyptian national team will not be able to get out of the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup.
Egypt are close to qualifying for the World Cup round of 32 as they top Group 7 with 4 points, earning a draw with Belgium and a win over New Zealand, their first win in World Cup history.
Bellamri said during the “Dorena Ghir” program of the “Saudi” TV channel. “I don’t expect the Egyptian team to go beyond the quarter-finals, because the levels of all Arab teams are similar.”
He added: “If the Arab teams meet their second-tier European counterparts, such as the Netherlands, the task will be difficult because the technical differences are great. Our Arab teams are suffering and this is something we have to accept.”
He concluded. “It is true that the Egyptian team knows how to stand, defend and attack, but there is no Arab team that can go to the quarter-finals and go to the semi-finals.”
Notably, Morocco was the only Arab team to qualify for the semi-finals of the previous World Cup in 2022 in Qatar, before losing to France and Croatia to finish fourth.
