The next season of Formula E will have a new race and three a new place to run it will start in December with the new Gen4 electric cars. The schedule released today by the FIA includes the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, the Brands Hatch circuit in Kent, and the Zandvoort circuit in Amsterdam. Like Competition says, this will give Formula E two weekends in the US for the first time since it was launched in 2014.
The weekend’s two-part electric race will also change, with two different races adding a short “Unleashed” E-Prix ahead of the main event. The the new version of “Unleashed”. and a 30-minute pace, similar to F1 speed, without official pit stops, allowing drivers to focus on pushing the new Gen4 cars as fast as possible, rather than worrying about battery management.
The new season of Formula E is changing the schedule from small road races to high speed races that can match the speeds that Gen4 cars can achieve – up to 208mph (335kmh). It has a larger footprint than the Gen3, too, measuring 5540 x 1790mm. Gen4 also has a higher output of 600kW, a 71 percent increase over the previous generation, according to the FIA. Talking with MotorsportFormula E boss Jeff Dodds said that “Gen4 brings us on the heels (of F1), and Gen5 is probably faster.”
