In Eastbourne, British qualifier Giles Hussey reached the second round by stunning French Open semi-finalist Matteo Arnaldi.
Hussey, ranked 293, defeated world number 30 Arnaldi 6-4 6-2 to meet French player Quentin Halise.
Arnaldi, 29, was playing his first tournament since illness forced him to withdraw before his last four matches at Roland Garros.
Hussey won his first Challenger title in South Africa last month and qualified for his second career ATP Tour event with straight sets victories over 78th-ranked James Duckworth and world No. 94 Marco Trungelletti.
In the women’s draw, Italy’s top seed Jasmine Paolini was beaten 6-4, 6-3 by Germany’s Tatjana Maria, who won the Queen’s title last year.
In the men’s doubles, Briton Joe Salisbury and American Rajeev Ram, who reunited after a successful partnership from 2018 to 2024, won their opening match.
Salisbury and Ram, who have won four major trophies together, lost 6-1 6-3 against French pair Terence Atmane and Luca Sanchez.
