FIFA has announced the appointment of French referee Francois Letexier to officiate the match between Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde in the third round of the 2026 World Cup group stage.

Letexier will be assisted in officiating the match by his compatriots Cyril Mougnier as the first assistant referee and Mehdi Rahmouni as the second assistant referee, with South African Abongil Thom taking on the duties of the fourth official and his compatriot Zachele Siwela assisting him as the reserve assistant referee.

The match is scheduled to take place in the early hours of Saturday, June 27 at the Houston Stadium in a crucial showdown between the two teams in the Group Eight tournament.

The significance of the match for the Saudi Arabian national team increases after they lost 4-0 to Spain in the second round, leaving them at the bottom of the group with one point.

On the other hand, Spain leads the group standings with 4 points, while Uruguay and Cape Verde occupy the second and third places with 2 points each, which makes the last round open for all the possibilities of fighting to qualify for the next round.

The Greens come into the match with the motto of victory only to keep their hopes of reaching the play-offs alive, while the Cape Verdean team will be looking for a positive result that will guarantee that they will continue the dream in their first appearance at the World Cup.
