The Minnesota Timberwolves will face the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Semifinals of the NBA Playoffs after eliminating the Denver Nuggets.
The Timberwolves won the best-of-seven series 4-2, winning six games 110-98.
In a tight contest, Denver’s Nikola Jokic scored 14 points in the third quarter to set up a close finish before the Timberwolves pulled ahead 57-50.
Jokic, voted the NBA’s Most Valuable Player three times, finished the game with 28 points and 10 assists, but his performance was overshadowed by an altercation with the Timberwolves’ Jaylen Clark.
The pair bumped each other with just under 10 minutes to play, resulting in a technical foul for both players, along with the Timberwolves’ Nazz Reed, who were involved in the incident.
It comes after Jokic Four were ejected at the end of the game for inciting a brawl. The Serbian said after the loss: “I needed to play better. I need to play better.”
Jaden McDaniels had a career-high 32 points for the Timberwolves, and they could be bolstered by the return of Anthony Edwards from injury for Monday’s opener against the Spurs.
