On January 31st, Nancy Guthrie went missing after being dropped off at her relatives’ home. The next morning, when she didn’t go to her friend’s house to watch a virtual Sunday church service, her anxiety increased.

The first ransom note was sent the day after she disappeared and demanded millions of bitcoins for her release.

He gave specific details about her home, as well as details about her bedroom and the surroundings of her home, investigators told CBS.

The memo was addressed to NBC’s Today Show co-host Savannah Guthrie. It was sent to several media outlets, including a local television station, which complied with police requests not to reveal its content.

A second note – sent on February 6 – has now emerged that used similar language to the first, but did not include any question, instead apologizing to the deceased and saying it was not intended.

After the two notes, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings released a video message to their captors.

“We received and understood your message,” the NBC host said. “We are begging you now to bring our mother back to us,” the family said.
