As the owner for the pool above, I can attest that cleaning out leaves, bugs, and other pests is a daily chore with the cover off. WIRED reviewer Chris Null tested this top-of-the-line model with a six-hour battery life and found it to do an excellent job of tracking pool bottoms and walls and capturing detritus at the water line and detecting AI-powered debris. It also floats when it’s done, so it’s easy to catch instead of fishing on the bottom. The only downside is that it’s heavy and unwieldy, but that’s not surprising given all the features it has.
“Rises Above Its Price”
This one has a shorter battery life than the AquaSense 2 Ultra and can’t focus on the surface, but has the same buoyancy to prevent retraction underwater. WRED analyst Chris Null put it through its paces and found it to be adequate for steps and platforms, and liked that it could work in water as shallow as 8 inches. iSkim Ultra Robotic Pool Skimmer
Our top choice, the AquaSense 2 Ultra, can also flood your pool. However, if you already have a water robot or a favorite machine and are looking for a skimmer alone, this is the one WIRED reviewer Chris Null recommends. The solar-powered ISkim Ultra has front-mounted sensors that prevent bumps in your tiles, although because the waste ejector button is on the front, it sometimes pops out if it hits something. That was our only complaint, however, on a well-made device.
A Robot With A Built-in Skimmer
The top member of the new Beatbot Sora line, the Sora 70 is the only member of the trio to include a skimming feature, allowing it to do dual duty both under the pool and above.
