Glamorgan captain Kieran Carlson led his side to a long-awaited win over Surrey in the County Championship at Rothes in Cardiff.

Their seven-wicket win was the Welsh side’s first red-ball success against home opposition since 1983 and handed Surrey their second defeat of the season.

Tom Lawes hit an unbeaten 66 as Surrey added 49 to their overnight total to thrash Glamorgan for 195.

The hosts struggled to assert themselves, with Billy Root being run out in just four balls, but Carlson settled the Welsh team for 67.

Captain Craig Overton however completed his third century of the season of Somerset clash with Warwickshire Taunton managed a draw.

Resuming on 219 with four second-innings wickets in hand, Overton and Thomas Rew took their seventh-wicket stand to 233 and Somerset led by 313 before being bowled out for 435.

Warwickshire’s hopes of pushing for that target were dashed by first losses to Jane Malik and Dan Mosley and they were stranded at 98 for two when play was abandoned shortly before 5pm due to rain.

In two sections, Durham Producing a sterling batting display to turn a potential draw into a six-wicket victory over the promotion rivals Northamptonshire in Chester-le-Street.

The visitors added 50 to their overnight total to set the hosts 296 to win. Durham began their task strongly, with Daniel Bedingham’s unbeaten 109 and Colin Ackerman’s unbeaten 65 taking them home in emphatic fashion.

For the hosts, Fateh Singh took a career best with five wickets for 74 runs Worcestershire also turned a match that looked certain to be heading for a draw into a dramatic five-wicket win Gloucestershire.

Fourteen wickets fell on Monday when Worcestershire, resuming at 59 for one, bowled out their opponents for 185 and set themselves for just 87 runs to snatch victory.

With Daniel Lettigan departing for a third-ball wicket and Graeme van Buuren finishing with four for 36, the hosts were reeling but it was all for naught as Worcestershire limped to the line with five wickets to spare.

Kent the beat Middlesex Matt Milnes finished with five for 31 in the second innings at Canterbury for 49, as the visitors set a possible 231 to win, being bowled out for 181.
