The former coach of Al-Ittihad, Portuguese Sergio Conceicao, entered into a legal dispute with the club’s management regarding the financial debts incurred as a result of the decision to terminate the contract.
According to the newspaper “Sports“Saudi Arabia, Conceicao has demanded that the federation’s management receive the full financial value remaining in his two-season contract following the decision to abandon him earlier this June.
Sources said the Portuguese coach’s contract includes a penalty of around four months’ salary if the contract is terminated in the first season, in addition to a clause that gives the federation the right to terminate the contract without further financial obligations if the coach fails to lead the team in one of the three seasons in the second and third seasons.
On the other hand, Conceicao and his famous agent Jorge Mendes adhere to a different interpretation of the contract, as they believe that there is a clause that gives the Portuguese coach the right to receive all his financial debts for the rest of the contract, which could open the door to a legal dispute between the two parties in the coming period.

On June 1, the federation announced the termination of Conceição’s contract, confirming that the decision was made after a comprehensive review of the team’s history and evaluation of the past phase in line with the club’s goals and future aspirations.
Last October, Al-Ittihad signed a contract extension for Conceicao until 2028, replacing Frenchman Laurent Blanc, who stepped down despite leading the team to a Saudi Arabian League and Copa del Rey double in the 2024-25 season.
During the supervision of the team, the Portuguese coach led “Al-Ittihad” in 41 matches in various competitions, during which he won 21, compared to 7 draws and 13 defeats.
At the domestic level, Al-Ittihad finished fifth in the Saudi Roshan League and also exited the King’s Cup in the semi-finals, while leaving the AFC Champions League for the elite in the quarter-finals, hastening the end of his experience with the Al-Jedaw club.
