A win for Itauma could later lead to an all-British world title shot for Daniel Dubois, should he win a substantive rematch with WBO world champion Fabio Wardley.
Speaking to the 5 Live Boxing Podcast earlier Monday, Itauma said he is also targeting next unified champion Oleksandr Usyk, or fighting German contender Agit Kabael on away soil for a vacant title.
But first he will have to get through 2016 Olympic bronze medalist Horgavich, who has won 20 professional fights and most recently stopped Britain’s Dave Allen in the third round in May.
“This is my toughest fight. Filip Horgovic is no mug,” Itauma said.
“Horgavich has achieved a lot in this sport. He’s beaten a lot of famous people, not just British boxing, but boxing in general. He’s won an Olympic bronze medal.
“The nice thing about my position is that I can get him away from all of this.”
But Horgovich, whose only loss came against Dubois 2024, His counterpart was less complimentary.
“I’m a fighter. I look at it from a different angle. I’ve never seen him in pain. I’ve never seen him get punched, knocked out,” he said.
“He’s definitely got speed and skill but to be a great fighter you have to have a strong will, chin and stamina.”
Billed as youth versus experience, the question of whether the pair respect each other was a theme throughout.
“Once that first punch lands, I’m sure he’ll respect me,” Itauma said.
Despite the tension, Hrgovic and Itauma exchanged a handshake during a polite encounter.
